University of Florida – CAPP Nurturing

The Nurturing Program is the home visiting component of The Child Abuse Prevention Project (CAPP) which is located at the University of Florida Department of Pediatrics. It is designed for parents considered to be at risk for abusing or neglecting their children. Our home visitors, who are called Parent Educators, assist the families with parent education and support. We also do extensive case management. Our program provides once a week visits in the home, pre and post testing, a family assessment and a summary of services upon completion of the program.

The Marion County Children’s Alliance is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization and was formed in 2000 to insure that all of the children of Marion County received appropriate care and attention. Initially the Alliance served as a vehicle to connect all of the service providers that were already operating. This was done by improving interagency communication and collaboration.

The largest campus area outside the Village of Boys Town, Nebraska, Boys Town Central Florida opened in 1986 in Oviedo. In 2009, Boys Town’s Integrated Continuum of CareSM touched the lives of 7,650 people in Central Florida, including direct care to 1,327 children and 171 families. The site also works with the state of Florida to combat child abuse and neglect through three short-term Intervention and Assessment centers. Children and Family Support Services include Children in Need of Services/Family in Need of Services, Common Sense Parenting® classes, and Project Safe Place, a national program that assists at-risk girls and boys in crisis.   Boys Town Central Florida is headquartered in Oviedo.

The Heart of Florida Youth Ranch is a licensed, faith-based child care facility that exists to provide residential group care for dependent, neglected, abused and/or troubled children, adolescents, and youth.  The program seeks to integrate a healthy balance of counseling, a planned group living program, and specialized services for residents who are unable to live in their own home and who, because of their age, problems or stage of development, can benefit by such a program.  Short-term and long-term care and counseling is provided for children 0 to 18 years of age.  School age children are accepted when private or foster care placement is needed.  Younger children are accepted in order to keep siblings together, younger children are accepted in order to keep them with their teenage mother, and/or younger children are accepted when private or foster care is needed.  Youth often enter independent living when they become 18 years old.
