You can make a genuine difference in the lives of local children and families by volunteering with Kids Central. We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities available to suit your time, talents, and interests. Please help us change lives for the better in our community.

Kids Central’s volunteer program was established in February 2010.  Since then, volunteers have contributed more than 3,500 hours assisting in Kids Central’s Resource Center, internal departments and at community events.  The program strives to be flexible and accommodating to volunteers’ schedules.

Available Volunteer Programs

The Dreams Education Program helps children in foster care achieve educational outcomes by facilitating communication between the school and the case manager. The program reduces educational barriers and arranges specialized services for the children as needed.

Volunteer opportunities in the Education Program include attending ESI staffings, tutoring, case research, and case file organization. If you are interested, please complete the form. To learn more or apply for this volunteer opportunity, please complete the volunteer request for information.

Location: Case work at the Wildwood corporate office. Work within schools or with children available in all school districts in Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter Counties.

The Resource Center accepts donated items and fulfills customer requests. Food, clothing, household items, and furniture are donated to the Resource Center. The items are inventoried. When families are in need of assistance a staff member requests items from the Resource Center.

Volunteer opportunities in the Resource Center include inventorying items, organization, fulfilling customer requests, accepting donations, picking up donations, and delivering donations. To learn more or apply for this volunteer opportunity, please complete the volunteer request for information.

Special project needs: Organize a food/item drive

Location: Work within the Resource Center is at the Wildwood corporate office. Special project can be completed within Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter Counties.

The Community Affairs department manages the organization’s website, produces various newsletters, writes for the blog, fundraises, organizes events and attends community events.

Volunteer opportunities in Community Affairs may include updating the website, writing for the blog or newsletter, creating flier/print materials, assisting with event planning, donor research, and fundraising. To learn more or apply for this volunteer opportunity, please complete the volunteer request for information.

Special projects needs: Website content refresh, writing, photography, event planning and fundraising.

Location: Working with Community Affairs can be done at the Wildwood corporate office or virtually.

The Neighborhood Projects are neighborhood specific projects placed in areas with high risk factors for child abuse and neglect. Each project works within its community to address the needs of the community. They are located in West Ocala and Wildwood.

Volunteer opportunities within the Neighborhood Projects may include helping others use computers, adult mentoring, receptionist, event planning, and event assistance. To learn more or apply for this volunteer opportunity, please complete the volunteer request for information.

Families are provided with access to support groups, help navigating the education and legal system, case management services, family finding, family team conferencing and holiday assistance.

Special project needs: Back to school assistance program and Thanksgiving coordination.

Location: Helping Kinship Care can be completed at the Wildwood corporate office or in the locations of the support groups: Ocala, Lady Lake, Spring Hill and Inverness.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Baby Sleep Basics” style=”round” color=”grey” el_id=”1473993030759-9643bfcb-24ab”]Kids Central provides infant safe sleeping classes to expectant and new mothers, father and caregivers. The class shows caregivers the safest way to put babies to sleep, educates them on SIDS and SUIDS. The classes are held in Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter Counties.

Volunteer opportunities in Baby Sleep Basics include teaching caregivers the basics of infant safe sleeping, SIDS, and SUIDS. Training will be provided to the volunteer.  To learn more or apply for this volunteer opportunity, please complete the volunteer request for information.
