Planting Pinwheels to Prevent Child Abuse

During 2012, the Department of Children and Families investigated 29,838 reports of child abuse in Circuit 5.

A shining, spinning pinwheel is a classic symbol of childhood. Together, Kids Central, Devereux and The Department of Children and Families planted a large-scale pinwheel gardens in commemoration of the abused and neglected children of Marion County. By working together, the aforementioned partners will engage the Ocala community to recognize, combat and prevent child abuse. With the donation of land use by Cunningham Funeral Home and The Simon Property Management, over 1,650 pinwheels spin for Ocala to observe and connect to the efforts focused on awareness and prevention.

Visit Kids Central’s child abuse prevention campaign page.

Kids Central would like to thank the End Kids’ Tears sponsors, including United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, Florida Mentor and online donors through Causes.com.
